Deploying Payroll across 21 Countries
The client is a Fortune 500 multinational bank with global operations spanning more than 55 countries. The bank has been on a fast growth track and, subsequently, expanding rapidly over the years as a result of its M&A strategy and increased thrust towards organic growth.

Project Brief
The client wanted to deploy PeopleSoft Global Payroll solution across 21 countries globally. Practices across these countries needed to be normalized and building new country extensions where none existed previously. Summarized below are the highlights of the engagement:

  • HRMS, Payroll and Financials consolidations spanning 21 countries
  • Provide support for these applications
  • Strategize and deployment of data warehousing solution

Solution Approach
Hexaware, banking on its inherent strengths in the HR domain – HRMS in general and Payroll Processing in particular, set about the challenging task of implementing the massive exercise.

Hexaware used a 4-tier architecture approach to implement the solution.

i. Tier 1: The tier 1 consisted of an interface engine, integrated third party systems and legacy payroll applications. Global payroll would be interfacing with various homegrown & third party applications on a regular basis. The Rule Based Interface Engine, designed by Hexaware provided seamless interfacing between various external applications & PeopleSoft applications.

Hexaware created a singular meta-data definition and a rule based interface engine, which automated migration and integration needs, thereby reducing the overall cost.

ii. Tier 2: Tier 2 included PeopleSoft HRMS, PeopleSoft Global Payroll and PeopleSoft Financials (GL). CLIENT had already rolled out PeopleSoft HRMS in all the countries. Based on the outcome of its study and analysis, Hexaware activated certain additional functions within HRMS. Most of these were related to benefits administration and personnel details information.

iii. Tier 3: This tier consisted of employee analytics and the primary purpose was to develop functionality for managing the workforce information for analytic reporting and decision-making. The functionality was integrated to the PeopleSoft HRMS, Payroll engine and Financials.

iv. Tier 4: The portal home pate was designed with PeopleSoft Portal Pack as the base by incorporating individual user requirements to display application functionality, reports, and related contents.

Solution Strategy

 

Hexaware used a two-phased approach for implementing and deploying PeopleSoft across the countries in scope.

  • Phase I: This included countries for which extension were already provided (where taxation and statutory rules were part of the product)
  • Phase II: This included countries for which country extensions were not supplied by PeopleSoft for which Hexaware developed the required Bolt-on extension.

For each of these phases, Hexaware used its standard CMM (Hexaware is a CMMi Level 5 company) based global payroll deployment methodology. A snap-shot of the very high level approach for implementing our solution is provided here below:
